Parking in Santiago is generally easy and affordable, with limited paid zones in the city centre.
On-Street Parking
- City centre (around Monumento, Duarte Park): Some metered parking (~10–20 DOP/hour)
- Residential areas: Free street parking
- Commercial areas (Los Jardines, Central): Free parking for most shops
- Malls and supermarkets have large free parking lots
Paid Parking
- Underground garages near the city centre: ~30–50 DOP/hour
- Central market area: guarded parking ~50 DOP/day
- Most hotels offer free parking for guests
Tips
- Parking enforcement is limited — use common sense (avoid blocking driveways)
- Valet parking (parqueo con valet) is common at upscale restaurants and bars
- Tipping valets: ~50–100 DOP ($1–2)
- During Carnaval de Santiago (February), expect road closures and plan parking ahead
- For long-term parking, use guarded lots (parqueo vigilado)
